  8. »CL0:As  we  all know, nowadays the idea of
  9. opening    up    a   scene   dedicated
  10. radiostation  certainly  isn`t  a  new
  11. one.    However   the   EC   team  has
  12. uncovered a station with a difference,
  13. so  one  decided  to travel across the
  14. country   and  behind  the  scenes  to
  15. report   back   to   you  all  what  I
  16. discover.

  18. »CL1:You   might   have  guessed  from  the
  19. article  title  that  the  station  is
  20. called  C.G.M.  UKScene Radio Station,
  21. 32 year old Englishman Mark Dunn alias
  22. Solorize  is  the  man responsible for
  23. the  broadcasting.  He began his scene
  24. career in 1996 although he explains "I
  25. had  an  interest  in  the  scene from
  26. about  1993,  downloading demos and so
  27. on".   The broadcast first came on air
  28. just  over  1  year  ago  and Solorize
  29. explained  to  me if it wasn`t for his
  30. girlfriend nagging him about his noisy
  31. music  making  sessions he would never
  32. have  opened  the station.  Just as we
  33. had   a   private   minute,   Solorize
  34. whispers  in my ear "I kept waking the
  35. kid   up   which   then   annoyed   my
  36. girlfriend".   Which,  you can imagine
  37. lead   to  his  eventual  decision  to
  38. search for different scene projects.

  40. »CL0:As  the radio`s name suggests "UKScene
  41. Radio"  the  playlist consists of only
  42. music  produced by UK musicians.  It`s
  43. the  first  project  of  it`s kind and
  44. possibly  an  innovation that could be
  45. mirrored    over    other   countries.
  46. Wanting    to   know   how   Solorizes
  47. formulated  the  idea  he confessed to
  48. being a fan of UK scene musicians work
  49. and  went  as far as claiming "while I
  50. have  a  large  collection,  I thought
  51. other  people  would like to listen to
  52. all   the   music  I  had  downloaded"
  53. furthermore   he   explains   "without
  54. having   to  go  and  spend  the  time
  55. themselves   downloading   them  all".
  56. Cleverly,   Solorize   later  admitted
  57. another major reason for featuring the
  58. UK  alone was to avoid being in direct
  59. competition  with Nectarine.  "They do
  60. a  fine  job and we don`t need another
  61. station  featuring artists from around
  62. the world".

  64. »CL1:Looking again at the name of the radio
  65. station,   not  only  is  it  quite  a
  66. mouthful  but also slightly confusing.
  67. Without   having   to   ask   Solorize
  68. thankfully explained "C.G.M = Computer
  69. Generated  Music,  just  for those who
  70. want to know".

  72. »CL0:As  Solorize  earlier  explained,  the
  73. station  has  been  on air for more or
  74. less  a  full  year  now.   During the
  75. course of such a time period one would
  76. be  expected  to  have the information
  77. available to decide whether or not the
  78. station  has been a success.  Solorize
  79. confidently  allowed  me access to the
  80. listeners  log and it was clear to see
  81. he  has  regular  listeners,  moreover
  82. individuals    who    tend   to   keep
  83. submitting  new  songs.   Although  it
  84. would  appear  the station has various
  85. expansion   problems.    As   Solorize
  86. informs  me  "I have negative feedback
  87. from  people  wanting  a higher stream
  88. bitrate".    Surely  he  would  simply
  89. increase  it?   "My  ISP  has a crappy
  90. upload  speed  limit  which  restricts
  91. either   the   amount   of  concurrent
  92. listeners   or   broadcast   quality".
  93. Admittedly,  he  has  a  problem which
  94. will  effect the eventual growth.  The
  95. only  solution  Solorize  has  came up
  96. with  involves  seeking help from you.
  97. "I`m looking for people who could help
  98. me  relay the station".  Hopefully one
  99. of  you reading this could help?  Find
  100. his  contact details at the end of the

  103. »CL1:Outside  help permitting, Solorize has
  104. already   formulated   new   plans  to
  105. improve  the content of the broadcast.
  106. He  explains  "once a week i`d like to
  107. do   a   dedicated  music  set  for  a
  108. featured   artist   along  with  audio
  109. interviews".   The  chance  of hearing
  110. the  likes  of  Spaceman, Dreamfish or
  111. Rob  Hubbard doing an interview on air
  112. is   surely  a  winner.   Over  recent
  113. months  Solorize  released a chip pack
  114. for   the   PC   scene   featuring   a
  115. collection    of    songs   from   the
  116. radiostation,      namely     "Distant
  117. Memories".  Check it out and listen to
  118. what  you  can expect to hear from his
  119. station.
